The Chiefs offensive line can be made out to look worse than it is in pass protection because of the way Patrick Mahomes plays the position and the deeper drops he takes. C Trey Hopkins | 51.4 Miami gambled that their young players would develop this season and the line would improve, but that unquestionably backfired. There was no weak link on the unit, especially in pass protection, and even the players who replaced injured starters acquitted themselves well. Add to that the fact that Jonah Williams and Jackson Carman are both high draft picks on rookie deals who could develop in 2022, and its easy to see why hopes are high in Cincinnati. That shows in the pressure numbers allowed for both players since Ramczyk entered the league in 2017. The tackles were the two best-graded members of the line, and the only two above 70.0 overall. Thomas' abysmal rookie season is still ingrained in a lot of minds, but many missed him become one of the best pass-protecting tackles in the league last year. Things didnt quite pan out in Year 1 for those players, as Chris Lindstrom played just 309 offensive snaps missing significant time with injury and Kaleb McGary was routinely beat in pass protection with 13 sacks and 13 quarterback hits allowed in 2019. This line simply needs to stay healthy. Larry Borom earned a 61.4 overall grade on 633 snaps, while Teven Jenkins recorded a 47.5 overall grade on 160 snaps. Theres enough talent elsewhere for New Orleans to work around it, but Penning making the leap from FCS to the NFL isnt going to be a walk in the park. He went from a 40.5 overall grade as a rookie to a more respectable 64.2 mark in 2021. Few teams invested more in improving the offensive line than the Dolphins did entering the 2020 season. RG Zack Martin | 94.2 Jake Matthews was the best-graded pass-blocker at left tackle, but his run-blocking grade sat at just 58.8. The Jets' offensive line overhaul has been a long-term process, but its starting to come together well even if its being undermined a little by the tendency of their rookie quarterback to hold the ball too long and work his way into trouble. He is already one of the best left tackles in the league, allowing 26 pressures across 16 games and being one of only four tackles with 80.0-plus PFF grades as both a run-blocker and a pass-protector. The dynamics did shift a little with those injuries. Terron Armstead at left tackle and Ryan Ramczyk at right tackle are both forces in the run game as well as in pass protection. Darrisaw earned a 71.9 overall grade on 652 snaps last season and got stronger as the campaign wore on. C Creed Humphrey The Los Angeles Rams offensive line was a big reason the team would make their Super Bowl run, providing Stafford and co. with the protection needed to make sure the offense fired on all cylinders. . Conklin ended the 2020 season as the highest-graded right tackle in the league at 84.3 overall, and he was the only right tackle in the NFL to allow a pressure rate below 3.0% on 250 or more pass-blocking snaps (2.9%).
